Biometrics and acceptance

Hi all

As this areas was empty, I decided to kick it off with a short post re biometrics as this is (obviously) my specialism.

It is apparent to me as a Consultant in the field that biometrics cuts across all areas of security, i.e. physical, technical and procedural (policy). The problem is that human identity management provision is dealt with in 3 different ways within an organisation, be it private or government. Often each area is handled by different departments and there is little, or no coordination between them. For instance the Security Manager deals with the gates and doors, the IT Manager with IT security and the HR Department with the policies and procedures that are supposed to support the business. So implementing a biometric solution that is cross-organisational in nature is always very difficult despite the business case to do so being strong.

I wonder if any other subscribers have implemented, or considered a biometric solution as an adjunct to their existing security measures?
